Changes to Trust Law
Changes to Trust Law
⚖️ New rules for trusts in Liechtenstein will take effect in July 2026—are your structures ready?
Liechtenstein’s trust law is undergoing a fundamental modernization. Here is an overview of the most important changes:
- Designated Beneficiary Requirement – In the future, every private trust will require a designated beneficiary (including successors) with the right to information, the right to receive annual financial statements, and the right to file motions and participate in proceedings.
- Charitable Trusts Under State Supervision – Now subject to oversight by the Foundation and Trust Supervisory Authority.
- Stronger judicial oversight and clearer regulations regarding binding instructions.
- Uniform 30-day reporting deadline for registrations and amendments.
📅 Transition periods until the end of 2026 (charitable) and 2027 (private) – but action must be taken now.
